Columns

Columns can add stately grandeur to a building as well as a sense of space. A Column is a load bearing cylindrical structure, normally with a gentle taper (entasis) towards the top. In classical architecture, it is composed of base, shaft and capital.
Pilaster – a flat, rectangular classical column fixed against a wall or used to frame a doorway, wall area fireplace, etc Columns and pilasters may be smooth or fluted (containing grooves along their length)
